History/Provenance: Bryce McLellan Patten served as the first superintendent of both the Kentucky School for the Blind and the American Printing House for the Blind. He was responsible for purchasing the first press for APH and published the first book in 1866. Patten resigned in 1871. Reprint obtained from the Filson Historical Society.
