Administrative History: The Cleveland Public Library (CPL) first offered library services for blind readers in the early 1900s and officially organized a Library for the Blind in 1910, according to the 1969 annual report of CPL's Braille and Talking Book Department. In 1931, CPL's blind division became a distributing agency for the Library of Congress, serving blind and visually impaired readers in Northern Ohio. The name of the division changed slightly during the period of the reports in this collection: Library for the Blind Division (1963-1968); Braille and Talking Book Service (1969); and Braille and Talking Book Department (1971- ).
