Scope & Content: Printed reports of the Birmingham Royal Institution for the Blind documenting the school's management, student, and building activities. Includes a July 1901 "Report of the General 54th Annual General Meeting," published "as an example of the work of the blind stenographer and typist . . . ." Annual reports include financial statement, lists of resident and adult day pupils, and black-and-white photo illustrations. Holdings are incomplete; see container list. Title varies (in parentheses, report from which title is taken): Annual Report of the General Institution for the Blind, Edgbaston, Birmingham (1900/1901). Administrative History: A school for the blind was opened in 1846 in Birmingham, England by Mary Badger and Elizabeth Harrold. It was formally established as a public charity in 1848 and designated as the General Institution for the Blind. In 1909, the name changed to Birmingham Royal Institution for the Blind. In 1953, pupils were moved to Lickey Grange. The Lickey Grange school closed in 1990.
