Administrative History: The Athlone School for the Blind opened in 1927, in a house located in Athlone, Cape Town, South Africa, to educate native (non-European) blind children. The school moved to larger accomodations in Faure, a Cape Town suburb, and later to Bellville, also located in Cape Town, where a permanent school building was completed in the 1940s.
