Administrative History: The Arthur Sunshine Home and Nursery School for the Blind was established in 1909 in Summit, New Jersey by the International Sunshine Society (headquartered in New York City), under the direction of the Society's Department of the Blind. It opened in 1910 and was originally known as the Arthur Sunshine Home and Kindergarten for Blind Babies, providing care and training to children eight years of age and younger. Initially the children served were from New Jersey; later, children were accepted from other states, as well. The residential program closed in 1938.
