Description: Jim Walton was born in Newport, Kentucky, but moved with his family to Florida as a child. He became interested in radio while in college at the University of Florida. He joined the staff at WHAS in Louisville in 1939, and was later the well-loved director of the WHAS Crusade for Children. He served with U.S. Army Intelligence in Europe during World War II. Jim hosted the Walton Coffee Call show on WHAS radio starting in 1949 and Walton Calling on WHAS-TV in the 1950s. He began reading at APH in the 1940s, where he was best known for reading classic westerns, historical novels, and mysteries. Jim retired from APH in 1984.
