Description: Fred Major (1937-2011) was born in Wisconsin but grew up in Washington, D.C. and New York. His real name was Frederic Morehouse. Fred studied Slavic languages and literature at Harvard. He married, had three children and worked in the printing business in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. After a divorce, he became a professional actor at age 30. Between 1967 and 1981, he performed in the national tour of Man of La Mancha with Jose Ferrer, in Othello at the Actors Studio, Off-Broadway in Knuckle, and at many regional theatres. Fred arrived in Louisville in the spring of 1982 to replace an actor in Lee Blessing’s Oldtimer’s Game during the 6th annual Humana Festival of New American Plays. It was his first role in a 28-year career at Actors Theatre of Louisville. He read for APH from 1984 until 2010.
